Sawyer County Board of Supervisors
January 6, 2009, 7:00 p.m., Assembly Room, Sawyer County Courthouse
 
members present:  Fred Zietlow (Chair), Doug Mrotek, Mel Olson, Dean Pearson
 
also present:  Arlene Mizerka, Bill Lontz (resident near Airport), Human Resource Manager Carol Larson, County Clerk Kris Mayberry
 
Motion by Olson, 2nd by Mrotek, to approve the meeting agenda as presented.  Motion carried.
 
Motion by Mrotek, 2nd by Pearson, to approve the December 8, 2008 meeting minutes.  Motion carried.
 
Maintenance Department Supervisor Dennis Erickson presented a report on projects completed, in progress, and planned by the Maintenance Department, including removal of snow and ice,  renovations to the Health and Human Services Department residential facility on Greenwood Lane, the new entrance for the female work-release prisoners at the jail, utilization of temporary contracted labor until an Maintenance Department Supervisor is hired, plans for renovation of work-release prisoner cell blocks, and shelving for the UW-Extension storage area.
 
The Committee reviewed the monthly Maintenance Department and the vehicle and equipment maintenance garage expense vouchers.   Motion by Mrotek, 2nd by Olson, to approve the Maintenance Department report and monthly expense vouchers.  Motion carried.
 
Dan and Patty Leslie, of L & L Aviation (contracted Airport management):
Presented a report on projects, operations, and conditions at the Sawyer County Airport, including removal of ice and snow from the runway, taxiways, and aprons.
Discussed that the Sawyer County Airport does not have access to a heated hangar large enough to de-ice larger planes and that, mostly for reasons of liability, environmental restrictions, and expense, de-icing services are not provided at the Sawyer County Airport.
Reported no significant developments with the Sawyer County Airport improvement project.
 
The Committee discussed whether to request renewal of the liability insurance coverage for the Airport for the period March 15, 2009 to March 15, 2010 through the RJF Agency office in Hayward or to request proposals for the coverage.  Motion by Pearson, 2nd by Mrotek, to request renewal of the coverage.  Motion carried.
 
The Committee reviewed the monthly Airport expense vouchers.   Motion by Mrotek, 2nd by Pearson, to approve the vouchers.  Motion carried.
 
Motion by Mrotek, 2nd by Pearson, to convene into closed session, pursuant to section 19.85(1)(c), Wisconsin Statutes, for employee evaluations.  Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Mrotek, 2nd by Pearson, to reconvene into open session.  Motion carried.
