Economic Development and Planning Committee meeting

Meeting agenda – approved by consensus

Minutes of the meeting of December 6, 2011 – Motion by Jaeger, second by Johnson to approve the minutes of December 6, 2011. Motion carried

Audience recognition – Linda Zillmer shared information on the upcoming Heart of the Farm conference for women in agriculture.

Indianhead Community Action Agency report, including Community Development Block Grant housing rehabilitation project – Carolyn Martin shared information regarding the CDBG grant. The contract was extended until the end of March. She provided a summarized completed projects (on file).

Northwest Regional Planning Commission report – Sheldon Johnson provided an update on various projects. The all hazards mitigation planning is moving forward. They have been approached by the Village of Radisson on a project. There are no new contacts regarding economic development revolving loan fund so they still have about 1.5 million remaining in the fund for lending. Johnson introduced Chad Kostner who provided a presentation on GIS and how you can use it for economic development. He shared the locateinwisconsin website by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and how it can be used to list local buildings available for development.

Sawyer County Economic Development Corporation report – No report

Hayward Area Visitor and Convention Bureau report - Linda Clifford indicated that she would not be able to attend the meeting. Wendy Schroeder indicated that the new tourism book is being developed.

Northwest Regional Planning Commission report, including geographic information system demonstration - (Included under item 5)

Development of policy for expenditures from Environmental Impact Fund – Ken Maki and Dale Thompson who were developing the policy were not in attendance. John Saunders asked David Berard to forward his written comments to the rest of the committee.

Hayward DNR Forestry Nursery – Warren Johnson said Ken Maki was still following up with the project but no new information at this time.

-       John Saunders indicated he would like to continue pushing for the development of the ATC guidelines and indicated that CAMBA could become a national IMBA ride center designation including the development of a bump park in a joint project between CAMBA and the local lions club.

-       Duffy updated on developments of Telemark and new Birkie trail head.
