Sawyer County Ag. Fair Association
Chuck Aubart reported. Wisconsin County Fair District Meeting held in Hayward last month at The Steakhouse. Most fairs faired fairly well; some were hit with heat. The Fair Board is discussing the idea of having sliding parties out at the Fairgrounds and partnering with Hayward Area Chamber office. It is still in the planning stages; the biggest issue would be insurance. The annual Fair Board meeting is also this month.
Agent Report – Lori Laberee, Ag Agent
Lori Laberee, 4-H Youth Agent, distributed report (report on file). Showed brief video showing the difference 4-H makes in a youth’s life. 4-H focuses on creating healthy communities, a food secure planet and a highly skilled workforce.
Healthy Living grant was received through Wal-Mart. Youth were trained in the Winter School in collaboration with the Sawyer County WNEP program. The key element is to bring in older youth to mentor and serve as role models to the younger youth.
Laberee has been asked by LCO School to train youth for positions in Youth Leader Councils.
Americorps assistant Kathy Lasiewicz has been brought on board in a renewable annual position to assist in strengthening the 4-H program in Sawyer County.
4-H articles in local papers that highlighted 4-H youth were reviewed.
