Sawyer County Ag. Fair Association
Laberee shared insight into her recent Civil Rights team review conducted with four county offices. She distributed a sample of the letter that is distributed to agencies that partner with UW-Extension offices. UW-Extension is a federally funded program. We are not allowed to partner with organizations/agencies that discriminate against others for racial, sexual orientation, gender, etc. Sawyer County will conduct a Civil Rights office review in 2014. WNEP Coordinator Lisa Wydra shared fiscal cliff legislation contained a $100 million cut in nutrition education effective immediately. The state is working with agency partners and officials to determine how program will continue. Stay tuned for more information. WNEP received a letter from the UWEX Dean to hold all costs until more is known.
Laberee requests permission to move dollars as necessary to support the work of Extension and will bring changes to the committee as they occur. Mayberry said it is county policy that this committee needs to approve transfers and send it to Finance committee.
Community Natural Resource Economic Development Agent Update
Laberee is working with Dave Berard and on Friday meeting with LCO Economic Development Committee to develop partnership in funding the CNRED position. Will keep the committee updated via email or phone. The CNRED position will be posted February 1st.
Family Living Educator Update
Four members of the committee were present during interviews. Lori Pillion-Baltrusis has accepted the position and will be starting February 1st. Michelle Jepson, Sawyer County Personnel Director was present to clarify the hiring process as it relates to county residency requirements and personnel who are not county employees. “Residency clause is for Sheriff, Highway and Department Head positions so it does not apply to this position. Since the UW-Extension educators are paid by the University, the county does not need to approve these hires through the Personnel Committee or County Board. The Extension Committee represents the interests of the County in the hiring process of these positions.” Discussion occurred regarding authority over hiring decisions regarding state and county. UW hiring policy will be on next month’s agenda.
Approval of Vouchers
Moved by Bassett, seconded by Shuman to approve vouchers. Motion carried.
Approval of Out-of-County Travel
Moved by Kinsley, seconded by Bassett to approve out of county travel. Motion carried.
Any Other Business
Moved by Shuman, seconded by Bassett to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
Respectfully submitted, Rebecca Brunner-Stroede, Recorder
