Lori Baltrusis reported. Baltrusis brought the committee up to date on the recent Family Living programming being offered to provide practical education to help potential renters acquire and keep decent housing. Baltrusis received certification training at the end of June to offer the RentSmart program. Baltrusis will partner with certified trainer Meyer, Washburn County Family Living Educator, to conduct a one-day RentSmart program with Fresh Start program participants. Wisconsin Fresh Start provides on-site home construction training, work experience, academic instruction and supportive services for out-of-school youth, ages 18-24 years old. Fresh Start is provided through ICAA and currently has participants from Washburn, Rusk and Sawyer counties. Since the purpose of UW Extension is to “teach, learn, lead and serve, connecting people with the University and engaging with them in transforming lives and communities,” ICAA is a natural partner. Information about RentSmart was distributed (on file) to those present. Discussion. Baltrusis previewed one of the training activities with those present. Attendees were given a “listening test” as an example of what is taught in the RentSmart session.
